Super Bowl Watched by Over 100 million

The NFL hype machine is really second to none. Case in point, the Super Bowl. Although there were some interesting story lines, this game was hardly a classic until late in the game. But that didn't stop viewers in the U.S. from tuning in in record numbers. Early estimates pin the viewer totals at around 100 million, which would eclipse last year's number of 98.73 million. Here is the breakdown of the ratings throughout the evening:

7:00 p.m. 45.0 rating/69 share

7:30 p.m. 46.3/69

8:00 p.m. 45.3/67

8:30 p.m. 48.0/69

9:00 p.m. 49.8/70

9:30 p.m. 50.6/71

Keep in mind that at the end of the game (at 9:30pm EST) on average 50.6 percent of all television-equipped households in US were tuned in to the Super Bowl at any given moment, while 71 percent of households watching TV were tuned in at the end of the game.

Tuned in Sunday night to watch some football. What I saw was a bunch of dudes on the field jukin' and jivin', preenin' and posturin'. Looked to me like an episode of "So You Think You Can Dance". Given that a lot of guys playing the game today are a**holes, perhaps the NFL should rename this annual laugh-fest the Super Bowel.
