For many years on the PGA Tour, tournaments were hosted by popular celebrities from the world of entertainment…Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Johnny Hart (the BC comic strip guy) and Justin Timberlake are examples. The tour also has events hosted by some of the legends of the game…Nelson, Nicklaus and Palmer.
Byron Nelson’s event in Dallas had always been a favorite of mine. I always thought that it was really cool to see the best players in the game stop after completing their round to say hel

I agree with what John says and I believe that the PGA TOUR is ultimately responsible for the actions of its members. There is no doubt that the charitable contributions generated by golf tours around the world are invaluable. Having played in many pro ams at all levels over the past thirty years and getting to know many of the players, a pattern emerges and you learn who is going for the ride because they are supposed to and who is giving back. Many times those that are in a position to do the most become invisible. It is hard for some of these athletes that are week in and week out treated like rock stars. Maybe Tim needs to put them in a room and tell them the story about what happens when the goose that lays the golden eggs dies.SPTO wrote on Mar 27, 2009
I'm not the biggest Tiger fan (I often use his real name when I talk about the guy LOL) but I have to admit that he respects the greats that came before him. If it wasn't for the Arnold Palmers and Jack Nicklauses the PGA would still be a small time niche golf tour. It's sad that so many of the top players today just don't get it.Taggart wrote on Mar 27, 2009
Tiger knows there is no future without the past. He is treating Arnold like he wants players to treat him at his tournament in 30 years. In a sense, it's just good business. Do your job as a proper ambassador for your game, and they will only thank you. That's why Arnold is still making huge cake! For being honest, and cordial. In this day of big dollars and ill sense, Tiger and players like him, have to try 3 times harder than their forefathers to keep respect at the forefront of the game. So much money is getting thrown at young kids to develop them physically and then we wonder why they start acting like ***s when they start having money. The game is so much bigger than earnings and records. You can see that in Tigers game.goonboy wrote on Mar 27, 2009
People may criticize Tiger for a lot of things, but he does respect the game and those who came before him!
