While Roy Halladay is now officially a Philadelphia Phillie, the ex-Blue Jays staff ace toed the mound one last time for Torontonians by taking out a full-page ad to thank the city and its fans.
"My wife Brandy, sons Braden and Ryan and I would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Toronto Blue Jays organization, its incredible fans, and the City of Toronto," Halladay says in the ad.
Halladay, who was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies last Wednesday after pitching in 12 seasons for the Blue Jays, says in the ad that "Toronto will forever hold a special place in my heart" and that the memories "will last a lifetime and so will my gratitude."
Halladay was the Blue Jays first pick in the 1995 entry draft, 17th overall, he was the best pitcher the Jays ever drafted, if not arguably the best pick in the history of the franchise. (Shawn Green would merit some consideration in the conversation.)
The 2003 Cy Young winner rewrote the Blue Jays record books over his 12 seasons with the big league team, he leaves nothing but memories and a mark of 148-76 and 3.43 ERA.
A truly classy act by a first-rate person; Halladay's professionalism, dogged determination and presence will truly be missed in the Blue Jays clubhouse and by baseball fans across Canada.
Where does Roy Halladay rank amongst the ball players to have dressed for the Toronto Blue Jays organization?

I suppose it depends on your take, it could be good or bad. I personally don't have a side.Chris wrote on Dec 22, 2009
Something tells me Rogers doesn't care if they lose you as a customer. :) They're still charging my uncle for his (now deceased) mother's cell phone bill because she had a plan. :O Rogers is as slimey as the big oil companies. As for the Halladay ad, nice touch. I've never seen a player do that before.cyberwanderer wrote on Dec 22, 2009
ROBERT WALSH - If you live and Philly and didn't regularly check out Jay games... You are in for such a treat! Every fifth day, you'll get a good, great or awesome performance and a two hour game. And Doc will likely really light up the National League. (Not so sure about his hitting though -- he's never had to bunt or sacrifice before) so maybe he doesn't complete quite as many games. But I now have a National League I can cheer for. This guy deserves a World Series ring like no other guy in baseball, both for his performance he's given and for the quality of his character.Robert Walsh wrote on Dec 22, 2009
HURRAY FOR OUR SIDE. As a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies since 1948. I say WELCOME Roy.Jim wrote on Dec 22, 2009
I wish nothing but the best for Roy Halladay. Here's hoping he gets the one thing missing from his career: a World Series ring.cyberwanderer wrote on Dec 22, 2009
Probably the most significant aspect of the Riccardi/Rogers legacy is that they sqandered Doc and his abilities. Best Jay ever -- pure class. Everything you want in a player. ROGERS overcharges me for bad cable service. (Monopoly.) Now they're cheaping out on how they run our national baseball team. (Monopoly.) Something tells me, when I buy my next cellphone paln, ROGERS will not be considered.
