Reports from the Chicago Daily Herald over the weekend claimed the Blackhawks were talking to the Anaheim Ducks over the possibility of bringing former 'Hawks blueliner James Wisniewski, perhaps by offering up defenseman Cam Barker.
Wisniewski is a restricted free agent this summer and could seek a raise to $4 million over his current $2.75 million salary. The Daily Herald suggests the Blackhawks probably couldn't re-sign him but by moving Barker it could free them from a possible salary cap dilemma.
SPECTOR'S TAKE: The Blackhawks don't have to dump salary now as they can afford to wait until the off-season to do so. Still, there's been considerable talk in recent weeks of GM Stan Bowman shopping for a defenseman and while Barker has struggled this season he would attract considerable interest in the trade market.
As for the Ducks, they've been surging in the standings recently and might not be keen to shake things up too much at this point.
